Although it is generally illegal, corporal punishment continues in many countries. Others argue that parents should have the right to punish their children in this way. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? IELTS 7 band essay -2023
Introduction
The benefits and drawbacks of corporal punishment are hot topics of discussion.
Some contend that parents should have the right to physically punish their
children to inculcate discipline and good habits, even though it is largely
forbidden in the majority of modern nations. Although this method of discipline
has some advantages, there are also numerous risks involved, in my opinion.
Body paragraph -1
If we consider the advantages of corporal punishment, one can claim that a child
is monitored best by his parents than anyone else because of the longer period of engagement, their close emotional connection, and parents know better how and when to correct a child’s mistakes.
Body paragraph -2
But the list of negatives is endless as there are several unfavorable effects of
physical punishment. The most obvious risk is that physical or mental abuse may
result from corporal punishment. Physically punished children frequently
experience developmental issues like low self-esteem and behavioral disorders.
Despite the health implications, corporal punishment is harmful to the bond
between parents and children. When parents use physical punishment on their
kids instead of talking to them, it causes a chasm between them that can last for
years. According to a 2014 study, children who experienced physical discipline from
their parents were more likely to harbor unfavorable opinions towards both their
parents and interpersonal connections in general. I disagree that parents should continue to punish their children harshly. Especially on analyzing the violence inflicted on these children as well as the lifelong terror these infants endure.
Conclusion
In the end, I think parents should not use harsh physical punishment but rather find an alternative and gentle approach. Being the guardians of their children, parents are fully entitled to discipline and raise them according to the law. Yet, the worst kind of parenting is when parents beat their infants to correct or guide them. Instead of treating their children cruelly, parents can lovingly correct their children by speaking to them gently and pointing out their mistakes.
